Agterplaas Guesthouse is situated at the foot of the historical Melville Koppies. The view, tranquillity and bird life easily lull visitors into forgetting they’re in South Africa’s busiest city. Yet the attractions of the Melville boutiques, bookshops, coffee bars, and nightclubs are nearby. We are approximately 3 km from Johannesburg University and 7 km from Wits.
Agterplaas offers individually decorated en-suite rooms, furnished with a king-size bed or twin beds on request; some rooms have a sofa bed for a 3rd person. In addition, each room contains air-conditioning, a fan, a heater, tea- and coffee-making, a bar fridge with complimentary juices and cold drinks, and other amenities for convenience. Different hearty breakfasts are served in the large dining room, which features authentic Oregon Pine flooring and pressed steel ceilings. We also offer limited informal conference facilities to hire.
Agterplaas Guesthouse is in a prime spot in Melville, a trendy suburb of Johannesburg. Melville is famous for its abundance of restaurants, coffee and book shops, making it an exciting area for tourists and business people from all over South Africa and abroad to explore. It is a residential area where scores of people from the arts, education, and media have settled over the past half a century. This might be part of the reason that visitors describe people here as extremely friendly and interesting. Johannesburg has a wealth to discover in terms of recent history, nature, archaeological sites and leisure activities for those who do not have time or resources for a visit to Kruger Park, the Garden Route and more. The area also contains shopping malls, tertiary institutions, media businesses, theatres, and hospitals.
