Arumvale Country House, in addition to being surrounded by peaceful untrammeled nature, has numerous outdoor activities within walking distance i.e. rock climbing, mountain hikes, bird watching, mountain bike trailing, canoeing, field rambling, swimming in the rock pools in the mountain gorge, horse riding in the Marloth mountain reserve and historical heritage walking trails in one of the oldest towns in South Africa.
Further afield in the region, within an hours driving:-
- The De Hoop coastal reserve, where pristine flora and fauna exist abounded by the Indian Ocean & from May until September, see the Southern Right whale.
- The regions famous coastal resorts of Arniston, with its turquoise sea waters, and Cape Aghulhas, the southern most point of Africa.
Directions from Cape Town Airport:
- Take the N2 highway for 206 km ( 2 hours 42 minutes driving) passing Somerset West, Elgin/Grabouw, Caledon, Riviersonderend and then Swellendam, taking the second turn off to the left.
This leads to a 4 way stop, turn left onto station road until the high street, Voortrek road.
On Voortrek road, turn right until the next 4 way stop, turn up Andrew Whyte Street with the Ok Bazaars grocery store diagonally to the right, continue up and past the golf course, and then take the first turn left onto South Hermitage road. Continue for half a kilometer and is the long, grey roofed double storey building on right after the dairy farm barns.
