Avalon Springs is renowned for its top-notch hospitality and natural hot springs, which bubble to the surface at 43 degrees. These mineral-rich waters, originating from Cogman’s Kloof, flow through our nine pools and continue to lure in visitors looking to soak away stress and soothe their aches and ailments.
With fresh refurbishments in recent times, our Avalon Springs has become the go-to for local getaways in the Western Cape. Just two hours’ drive from Cape Town, guests can find themselves frolicking in this watery wonderland while enjoying all the benefits of a resort-style holiday. The service is efficient, the atmosphere effortless, and the accommodation plentiful, ranging from hotel rooms and chalets to self-catering apartments and wheelchair-friendly garden suites.
While our naturally warm spring water is the biggest draw card at Avalon Springs, the surrounding views are guaranteed to enrich your soul. Just picture it: towering trees, craggy outcrops, and blue skies reaching as far as the eye can see.
Our on-site Cogman’s Restaurant, café, and Dassies Cove poolside bar ensures you’ll never go hungry (or thirsty!) during your stay. Other facilities include waterslides, a children’s play area, communal braais, and a private wellness spa. Avalon Springs and its surrounds further provide a treasure trove of activities like hiking, golf, and tennis. The town of Montagu is just down the way and offers a fine mix of upmarket restaurants and quirky padstals run by our community of lively locals.
Hot Springs:
Flowing naturally from fissures in the rock face into a cavern some 5 meters underground, these waters have healing powers yet to be fully understood. Although the water comes to the surface at 43°C, it reaches the various pools at different temperatures due to the distance the water needs to travel. The rate of flow is unaffected, even by the worst droughts that the area has experienced. It originates from very deep down, with an estimated source depth of about 3km.
The water is 100% clear and clean with a near-perfect Ph when it reaches the surface and contains several minerals and other organic trace elements. It further undergoes a natural filtration process as it forces its way through layers of rock strata.
This ‘natural perfection’ allows Avalon Springs to pump the water directly into the various available pools and spa baths without treating or in any way changing it. As such, visitors can enjoy these waters in their most natural form. For hygiene reasons, the water is chlorinated in the evening but is not recycled and is continuously drained off.
