Rhino conservation:
Baobab Ridge organises rhino darting and micro-chipping events on request at an additional cost (subject to availability). At these events a local vet works together with a helicopter pilot to allocate and dart two to three rhino on one morning excursion. Guests are then asked to help to ensure that the animal does not harm itself when going down, covering its eyes and closing its ears, to ensure it does not become stressed. While the vet notches its ears and takes DNA samples, which will go into a national rhino data bank, the manager of the reserve drills a hole to insert the micro-chips. Guests help by watching its breathing, temperature and taking measurements of the horns etc.It is a wonderful way to give back, but also a great team building event for corporates or even a group of family or friends, who can afford it. Please enquire, should you have interest in this and we can send a quote. This is a great team building experience!

Food and dietary requirements:
Please let reservations know of any dietary requirements (food allergies, dislikes etc) prior to arriving at the lodge, as the menus are set and they do not provide a choice of e.g starters or breakfast. This way the lodge is aware beforehand and can prepare for your specific needs. We do cater for vegan, vegetarian, gluten/lactose free and food allergies, but please inform us before arrival.
Malaria:
We cannot give advice on this, it is best to ask a health professional. We are in a low risk malaria area but depending on rains, it varies. In the Summer months we do suggest using mosquito spray and covering up at dusk and dawn, in Winter it is usually too cold for mosquitos, but this depends on how cold it is and whether we have had late rains or not.
