Bartholomews Loft and Bartholomews Cottage are two beautifully renovated, character filled buildings offering 3 spacious fully equipped self-catering units.
Situated at Artificers Square - the old artisan quarter of 1820 Grahamstown. Many restored original houses, now National Monuments, reflect a number of 1820 Settler architectural styles. Wagon stones and cobbled gutters still exist.
Bartholomew`s Loft
Bartholomew`s Loft is a lovely building, once an old church with its loft conversion and double volume living area that has been converted into very comfortable self-catering accommodation for a group of up to six people.
The loft accommodation comprises of a large spacious open plan living area, tastefully decorated: a comfortable lounge with TV, a large dining room table, and fully equipped kitchen. Off the living area are two twin bedrooms.
A wooden staircase leads up to a spacious double room with large bed fitted with lovely linen, a dressing table with hairdryer and wardrobe with plenty hanging space. The decor creates a feel of warmth for both the old and new.
There is only has ONE bathroom downstairs which is not en-suite to any of the bedrooms and the loo is separate.
Bartholomew`s Cottage
Bartholomew`s Cottage has been converted into two spacious self-contained units:
- The Courtyard Suite of Bartholomew`s Cottage has a king size bedroom, en-suite bathroom with shower and a separate open plan kitchen/diningroom. Both rooms open onto a private walled courtyard, the charming stone walls are a typical feature of 1820 Grahamstown homes.
Complete with water feature and small raised garden it gives the sense of an inner city sanctuary.
- The Patio Suite of Bartholomew`s Cottage has a bedroom with twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with a bath. The sunny open plan kitchen/living room opens up onto a small patio. The original wooden beams, old wooden floors and windows keep to the character of this historic building.
All linen and towels are supplied and the cottages are serviced daily. Each room has a heater and electric blankets for Grahamstown`s chilly winter nights. Tea, coffee and rusks are provided, there is DSTV and secure off street parking.

Bartholomew`s Loft is within easy walking distance from Grahamstown`s city centre, it is 1km from the Cathedral in High Street and 1.5km from the Drosdy Arch which is the entrance to Rhodes University.
From the N2 ex Port Elizabeth:
At the 1820 Settlers Nation Monument turn left into Grey street, continue towards town.
Grey street becomes Beaufort street.
Turn right at St Bartholomew street (sixth right hand side street).
The loft is the second building on the right hand side.
From the R67.
Take the R 67 from the N2. The R67 (George street) runs into Beaufort street.
Turn left. St Bartholomew street is the third street on the left.
The Loft is the second building on the right hand side.
