Set on route to the Cango Caves, in the picturesque Schoemanshoek Valley (14 kilometers from Oudtshoorn), Berluda Farmhouse & Cottages is an intimate guesthouse experience. It offers 6 en suite bedrooms (renovated in 2008) in the original Farmhouse and 6 self catering cottages (2 renovated and 4 newly built in 2007 and 2008). The restaurant offers breakfast & dinners reservations only. The beautiful lush gardens have 2 swimming pools and Berluda is furthermore surrounded by ostriches and apricot orchards, as well as our famous Karoo veld, where long hikes can be undertaken to enjoy the special indigenous vegetation.
Berluda Farmhouse & Cottages is well known for its authentic South African farm hospitality and traditional South African cuisine. Owner, Piet Schoeman, runs one of the largest working ostrich farms in the area, and was elected the Western Capes Young Farmer of the year 2006. His wife Laura gives a tour in English, Afrikaans, German and/or Dutch. This is an experience which is not to be missed.

Private Lounge and Reading Room
The lounge in the farmhouse is beautifully decorated with antiques and the air-conditioning provides a cool escape from the hot summer days. DSTV is available in the lounge. If you do not want an update on the latest news, you can just relax and indulge yourself on some of the informative books on the coffee table. Or sit on the patio, breathing in the Karoo air while listening to the birds in the garden.
Dining Room
In 2007, the old tobacco barn next to the farmhouse, was beautifully renovated and upgraded into a spacious and cosy dining room. With reed ceilings, large Oregon and stained glass chandeliers and bold ostrich leather pieces, this barn provides the perfect background for intimate weddings or parties. Dining at Berluda is a taste adventure you will never forget. Try our local Karoo lamb or ostrich delicacies, and some award-winning local wines and sweet wines. During the hot summer months, guests can enjoy Rosie`s sumptuous breakfast on the patio. On chilly winter evenings, the huge fireplace attracts people to enjoy a glass of local wine after of before dinner. The dining room also offers a private book collection with informative books on the area, as well as DSTV, Wifi, and a small boutique with quality ostrich leather handbags, wallets and belts.

Join Leon on a tour of one of the biggest ostrich farms, and learn more about the unique products of this big bird such as the leather, feathers and healthy meat. A visit to the hatchery completes this unforgettable experience.
Our tours offer an animal-friendly alternative, with no riding of ostriches. One of the highlights when visiting Berluda is the introduction of our Meerkat Family!
Join us on an early morning drive down to their burrows. Your guide will introduce you to the daily lives of these cute creatures. Wait patiently with a cup of coffee/tea in the hand, as they start to appear in the early morning to start their day. A once in a lifetime experience, only possible in the Little Karoo.
