Chandelier Game Lodge & Ostrich Show Farm, is situated between the lush green Garden Route and the wide-open spaces of the Klein (Little) Karoo with the Outeniqua and Swartberg mountain ranges as backdrop.
Chandelier is easily accessible, next to the N12 (Route 62) 7 km from Oudtshoorn and is an ideal base from which to explore the Garden of Eden of the Garden Route as well as the rich diversity of the Klein Karoo and Route 62.
Chandelier Game Lodge & Ostrich Show Farm is the only ostrich show farm in South Africa where guests can stay in luxury en suite tented chalets within walking distance from these amazing birds. Guests are invited to participate in the daily activities on the working ostrich show farm, like feather clipping etc. Ostrich riding is also available for the brave.
Guides are multi-lingual and tours are conducted in five languages, if arranged in advance. Come and experience the magic of the Golden Camel Bird.
Accommodation
Luxury Tents:
A unique feature of Chandelier is our luxury en suite tented accommodation. The tented chalets offer a unique bush experience quality is in the detail. The chalets are placed on wooden decks in the bush and great care has been taken to assure privacy and unique views.
Each en suite unit has a private observation deck from where guests can spot various game species on their way to the water hole.
The lodge sleeps 16 people in eight private chalets equipped with white linen and velvet, as well as corner or spa baths and air conditioning or fans. The stylish dcor creates superb luxury, under the canopy of the acacia trees.
The showers, with only the stars as roofs, are something to experience. Guests are woken every morning with the beauty of birdsong. Children are welcome and up to two small kids may share with their parents. Get wild in Style!
Thatched Selfcatering Unit:
The thatched, fully equipped self catering unit sleeps eight. The unit consists of four bedrooms (1 x double and 3 x twins) with two gas operated showers and battery operated lights.
An outdoor braai (lapa), with fire wood supplied, is available for guests. (Guests are welcome to have their meals at the restaurant)
The Kings Mask Restaurant specializes in traditional South African cuisine, with the emphasis on superb ostrich and venison dishes.
Game Viewing
Chandelier hosts a large population of antelope such as Sable Antelope, Lechwe, Waterbuck, Bontebok, Kudu 23 species in total - as well as giraffes. If you are lucky, you may spot the elusive black backed jackal or even catch a glimpse of the rare, indigenous leopard.
Chandelier consists of 3500 ha of succulent Karoo, river bush veldt and Cape fynbos. The 122km of land rover tracks make game viewing safaris on Chandelier an unforgettable experience. Come real close to the animals on either the quad bikes or on foot.
Sundowner Tours
A perfect ending to an unforgettable day at Chandelier is the popular sundowner tours. Guests are transported to our lapa (shelter) high up in the mountains on open land rovers. At the lapa we spoil our guests with sundowners, while they adore the unique sunset over the Swartberg mountains.
Bird Watching
The unspoilt area attracts many species like the African Fish Eagle, Secretary Bird, Martial Eagle, Black Eagle and Blue Crane. The Klip River runs though Chandelier for more than 8 km and offers a home to various water species.
Community Craft Centre
The Craft Centre is open to the public and guests are invited to try their hand on the painting themselves. The Centre has been changed into a Black Empowerment Project to create employment. The products of the Craft Centre are for sale at our Curio Shop.
