Oudtshoorn is situated in the semi-arid Klein Karoo region of the Western Cape, just north of the picturesque Garden Route. The Greater Oudtshoorn area is accessible via the scenic Meiringspoort mountain pass on the N12, and it is part of the renowned Route 62 – the world’s longest wine route, stretching from Cape Town to Gqeberha. However, it’s not only the stunning drives that establish this region as a prime choice for your next road trip. Oudtshoorn is nestled between the majestic Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains, ensuring breathtaking views and unforgettable adventures throughout your stay.
Oudtshoorn evokes season times, ostrich farms, and cave exploration. This makes for a perfect balance between adventure and tranquillity. The region is also an ecological hotspot and the convergence point of three distinct plant biomes: The Succulent Karoo, Cape Thicket, and Fynbos. These biomes come together in the Swartberg Mountain range, forming the Cape Floral World Heritage site.
With minimal annual rainfall in the area, Oudtshoorn offer an ideal setting for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and exploring the marvels of nature. As a region rich in offerings – from a variety of adventurous pursuits to serene sunsets accompanied by local wine and cuisine – there is truly something to suit everyone’s taste.
De Akker Guest House is situated in center of town, 200 meter walking distance from a variety of very good restaurants. Walking distance from a lot of Arts, Curios, Culture and History to been seen like Arbeidsgenot, CP Nel Museum, Le Roux Townhouse, Ostrich Palaces and more.
Nearby you will find the world famous Cango Caves, Ostrich Show farms, Cango wildlife Range, Game Lodges, Waterfalls, Wine Tasting at Wine Farms, 4 x 4 Safaris, Swartberg pass, Meerkat Adventures, Interaction with Cheetah’s, Elephants hugs and feeding, Crocodile Cage diving, Giraffe bottle feeding, Camel rides, Golf course and many more. We do have a lot of information concerning Oudtshoorn and more than helpful to share it with our guest, even discount vouchers for most of the activities to be given at arrival.
