De Kothuize consists of eight lovingly-restored classic Cape Karoo houses in historic Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Province.
Most are national monuments and have been furnished and equipped in a manner which is harmonious with their historical character.
We are a “pet-friendly” establishment.
Accommodation at De Kothuize:
Seven of the properties are situated in Parsonage Street, Graaff-Reinets most historic street (stretching from Reinet House at one end to the Drostdy Hotel at the other), which is the core of the oldest part of town.
The other three houses are situated in (or adjacent to) Cradock Street, sometimes described as a one mile and 230 years of history, being full of historic houses, but close to the towns museums and other facilities.
4 Parsonage Street
This is a charming bed-sitting room with a double bed, a small kitchenette and a shower bathroom, suitable for guests seeking a budget accommodation rate. It is situated in the parking area for De Kothuize, next to the Reception. There is a small outside area suitable for a braai, with a Weber and a small garden table and chairs. The unit has DSTV. Please note that as this unit immediately adjoins De Kothuize`s off-street parking area, there is occasional exterior noise from cars and trailers entering and exiting the area. The location of the unit is ideally suited for the town`s extensive museums and other facilities. Several good restaurants are within walking distance.
6 Parsonage Street
This classic, restored Karoo Cottage in Graaff-Reinets historic Parsonage Street offers two bedrooms, with double beds, both with en-suite bathroom facilities one with a large antique bath and a shower and the other with a shower. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with an adjoining dining area, and a separate sitting room. Externally, there is a charming swimming pool and a paved beamed patio/entertainment area with an outside table and chairs. The cottage has some excellent classic antique furniture and prints. Staying in this property will give you a true feeling of being in old Graaff-Reinet and it is ideally situated for the towns extensive museums and other facilities. Several good restaurants are within a short walking distance.
10 Parsonage Street
This, one of the most charming and historically significant of the cottages in Graaff-Reinets picturesque Parsonage Street, recently fully-restored, offers three bedrooms all with double beds and all with en-suite bathroom facilities one with a shower, and two with small bath/combined shower arrangements. There is a fully-equipped kitchen,a seperate dining room and a sitting room. Externally, there is a substantial paved patio/entertainment area with table and chairs this area has a built in braai facility and a historic Cape bread oven. The cottage is furnished with several Cape country antiques and prints. It is ideally situated for the towns extensive museums and other facilities. 12 Parsonage Street
This is one of the oldest and most spacious houses in Graaff-Reiner’s picturesque Parsonage Street, recently fully restored. It offers 3 bedrooms-one with a king size bed, one with a double bed and one with 2 single beds. All three bedrooms have complete en suite bathrooms, with a bath and a separate large shower.
16 Parsonage Street
This Karoo cottage, offers two bedrooms (one with an extra length king-size double bed and one with two single beds, all four-posters), one bathroom (with shower and bath), a fully-equipped kitchen and a combined sitting room and dining room. There is a substantial paved garden area with an outside table and sitting arrangement. This cottage has some excellent classic antique features including some yellow wood floors, as well as beamed and planked ceilings. Staying in this property will give you a true feeling of being in old Graaff-Reinet and it is ideally situated for visiting the town`s extensive museums and other facilities. Several good restaurants are within a short walking distance.
18 Parsonage Street
This property adjoins number 16, is a national monument and also offers two bedrooms (one with an extra length king-size double bed and one with two single bunk beds), one bathroom (with shower and bath), a fully-equipped kitchen and a large sitting room with a separate dining area. There is a small external paved garden area with an outside table and sitting arrangement. This cottage is furnished with several antique items, including sets of antique prints. The cottage is full of character and is also ideally (and centrally) situated in the most historic part of Graaff-Reinet.
7 Cross Street
This charming Karoo house is immediately adjacent to Parsonage Street, in the historic centre of Graaff-Reinet. It has been fully restored recently and offers two bedrooms, one with an antique four-poster double bed and one with two single beds, both with en-suite bathrooms (one with a bath and a shower, and the other with a shower).
This unit has a dedicated adjoining off-street carport, for secure parking, which has a vehicle height limit of 1.8 metres (any vehicle above this height has to be parked at De Kothuize’s main parking area at 4 Parsonage Street, which is a 5-minute walk from the unit).

This is a charming bed-sitting room with a double bed and en-suite full bathroom, with a bath and a shower. There is a small (but fully equipped) kitchen, and the unit has a beamed patio area, with a kettle braai and a garden table and chairs, next to a small lawned area.This garden cottage has air-conditioning and DSTV. This is a large and luxuriously-appointed classic Karoo house, a national monument which offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one with shower and one with bath en-suite, separate sitting room and large dining room. There is a large walled garden with views of the mountains surrounding Graaff-Reinet, and patio sitting area under vine.
