Forest Cottage is a rustic fully equipped self-catering cottage, with a fridge/freezer and microwave / oven.
It is situated 1/2 km away from Forest Creek Lodge & Spa area next to the indigenous forest, with stunning view of the mountains, and is totally private.
We provide towels, soap, tea, coffee; all you need to bring is your food, clothes shampoos etc. It has limited DSTV.
The cottage comprises 1 queen bedroom en-suite (bath and toilet, with the shower over the bath), another small bedroom with single bed and a double sleeper couch in the lounge.
We provide firewood for the fireplace and braai, should you wish to braai on charcoal, then please bring your own.
You are welcome to book any activity and or meal at the lodge if you take the self catering option.
Location of Forest Cottage: A question often asked is "Where are you?" The only way we can explain this is to say, if you were in Dullstroom and jumped off the mountain, you would land in our gorge (Box canyon).
Dullstroom is on top of our mountain range. Lydenburg is to the east, 35 km away.
Activities:
Bush bath - Set in a secluded spot, enjoy a 'Bath' in the bush, with lots of bubbles and champagne under the moonlight and stars. Forest spa - Indulge yourself in our private Spa overlooking the gorge, go home feeling relaxed and stress free. Gazebo romantic private dinner - Spoil your loved one, and request this romantic setting for a totally private candle lit dinner under the gazebo. Many a proposal of marriage has been accepted in this lovely setting. Hikers picnic - A picnic packed in a rucksack, get ready to hike to the waterfall. Lazy picnic - A picnic set out for you in a private spot, with champagne, a good one for the romantic at heart. Jet ski - Bring along your own Jet Ski and enjoy a day of fantastic skiing on the Kwena dam. The dam is 1200 Hectares. Picnics available. There is no charge, and parking is available for your trailers and Skis. Elephant rides - Enjoy a days outing and visit the Elephant Whisperers where one can interact with the Elephants. You get to touch and feel the animal, and have a educational talk on the animal after which you can go for a ride on this magnificent beast. Hiking - Marked trails through the forest, along the stream, (where in summer you can see the tiny tree Orchids, ferns and flowers, and fungi). Trout fishing - An altitude ideally suited to the rapid growth of Rainbow and Brown trout. Our cold, clear perennial stream feeds the trophy dam. Bird watching - We have a prolific variety of uncommon species of Birds that can be seen, including a resident pair of Black Eagles. We have a Forest Creek bird list. Horse riding - 4 km down the hill, book a ride in our scenic valley. Mountain biking - Bring your bikes and enjoy the off road cycling. Great views as you ride. A hard ride. Clay pigeon shooting - An interesting and testing range for the novice and experienced shotists. Use our Winchester 12 and 20 gauge shotguns for serious practice of just for fun. Game drives - Game drives are available by prior arrangement only, on a neighbouring property 15 km away. Please note that you must drive yourself to the farm. The ranch manager in a game viewing vehicle will then guide you. Picnic's are available from Forest Creek.

• Cancellation more than 14 days prior - 25% of tariff • Cancellation 7 to 13 days prior - 50% of tariff • Cancellation less than 7 days prior - 100% of tariff • A minimum charge of R100 or 15% will be charged for admin fees. • Last minute amendments to bookings will not be credited.
Directions:
Directions from Johannesburg - 2 to 3 hours: take the N4 Witbank / Middelburg. Go through Machadodorp Toll Plaza. 3km after the toll on the left take the Schoemanskloof bypass towards Lydenburg/Nelspruit. After approximately 15km there is a turn off to the left to Lydenburg, which is the R36. R36 to Lydenburg approx 18kms you will see Kwena Dam on the right. Start looking for Forest Creek/Rustenburg signs on the left. Take the Rustenburg dirt road to the left, travel 4km, on the left hand side you will see the Forest Creek sign, farm no 14. Two concrete eagles on gate post. Up the hill 4.4 km.
Directions from Nelspruit - 1 hour (98km): N4 out of Nelspruit past Halls Store 22 km turn right onto the Schoemanskloof bypass. Travel 45 km right onto R36 to Lydenburg. Travel 18km see Kwena Dam on your right, start looking on your left for the Forest Creek/Rustenburg signs. Turn left onto the dirt road travel 4km, see Forest Creek sign on left, farm 14, come in the gate and 4.4km up the hill to Forest Creek.
Directions from Dullstroom - 50 mins (62km): Take the Lydenburg road out of Dullstroom, travel approximately 35km and on your right you will see a sign Witklip - take this dirt road and travel 8km. You will come to the Lydenburg/Machadodorp road (R36) turn right, travel 11km, come down the hill and you will see the Kwena Dam on the left. Look for the "Forest Creek Lodge" sign on your left, pointing to the right, take this dirt road, 1.2km of farm road and you will see another "Forest Creek Lodge" sign pointing to the left, take this road and travel about 6.2km and you will find farm no. 14 on your Right, the gate with 2 concrete eagles, come in the gate and travel up the farm road 4.4km and you will find Forest Creek at the top.
