Hog Hollow Country Lodge is a 4 star lodge set on the edge of an indigenous forest in a private nature reserve with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the Tsitsikamma mountains in one of the most beautiful parts of Africa the Garden Route.
Overlooking the Matjies River Gorge, this congenial hub is where it all happens.
Kick off your shoes, grab a icy drink from the bar and relax. There are three lounge areas to escape to with a book, a pair of binoculars, or just your thoughts. The pool lounge leads out onto cool blue waters where you may find others lazing about on comfi-recliners.
The reading room offers a quiet haven and a leafy vista of the indigenous forest valley and Tsitsikama Mountains. If you`re a bird lover we advise you to head straight for the Ficus lounge where an ancient fruit-laden tree is a favourite with Plett`s prolific bird community.
At the centre of the Main House is our famously large dining room table where guests can plan their daily activities over breakfast and unwind in the evening around a candle-lit table laden with gourmet delights.
The Boma is a place for festive occasions and the day`s end where guests can kick back on a pile of comfy cushions, a fire crackling nearby, and their favourite night cap in hand.
Accommodation:
The sixteen suites are all situated in the gardens surrounding the main house.
King size beds (or twin if you prefer) earthy colours with a bit of zing. Hand crafted artifacts, a well stocked mini bar and a hi-fi with some interesting music.
Sit out on your private wooden deck listening to the sounds of a garden humming with life, enveloped in the warmth of the African sun.

- A South African bed time story (don’t worry, we don’t test you!)
- A hot water bottle for those chilly winter evenings.
- Wifi access (which can be erratic because of the terrain, but you can always pop up to the main house to log in)
- Our homemade Lemon syrup (complete with recipe) its deliciously refreshing
- Hand-baked cookies in tightly sealed jars as the monkeys do LOVE to eat them too.
Children
Children are welcome at Hog Hollow and there are three double storey suites suitable for children aged 12 and under sharing with their parents.
We organize baby-sitting, special turn downs each evening with a glass of fresh milk, a Gingerbread man, children’s stories and a whole box of toys and other interesting things.
And we have buckets and spades and body boards for those lazy family days at the beach. There is no TV at Hog Hollow and no fireplaces in the double storey suites!
Notes for children
Hog Hollow Country Lodge is set on the edge of the Matjies River gorge and as such it has a very steep landscape profile. Please also be aware that there are drop-offs from the balconies and decks. The family rooms do have specially designed balconies which are higher with vertical poles.
We have unfenced dams and an unfenced pool on the premises so parents and children are asked to be very careful when around these areas. No children are allowed at the pool/dam areas if they are not in the care of their parents and/or legal guardians.
Please dont feed the monkeys they are absolutely adorable, but we need to keep them in their natural wild habitat and not encourage any form of domestication.
Villa at Hogs Hollow:
The Villa at Hog Hollow is about 400 metres from the main lodge and still on our private nature reserve. Its a three bedroomed double storey house with extraordinary views over the valley and Tsitsikamma Mountains. The house opens up on the infinity pool and wooden decks giving it an airy and light feel.
The lounge (45m2) is spacious and sunny: comfortable leather furniture, drinks cabinet, music system, DSTV and DVD player, fireplace and wooden deck area with magnificent views over the valley, forest and mountains.
There are three rooms at the Villa:
- The master bedroom downstairs (41m2) with en-suite bathroom
- The main upstairs bedroom (41m2) with en-suite bathroom
- The Atelier bedroom upstairs (21m2) with bathroom in bedroom & separate loo
Amenities:
- Kitchen/Dining Area: Downstairs (30 m)
- Modern glossy black and stainless steel finishes and an open plan design lends itself to a sociable food preparation and dining area which forms the social hub of this home.
- Inside/outside dining, an 8-seater wooden dining table, candles, lanterns and access to the veranda and pool area via wooden stack-sliding doors will ensure that you spend many hours enjoying this area.
This is a perfect family holiday home. Mum and Dad have the private master bedroom on the ground floor and the children have the upstairs area complete with a games room (35m2) sporting its own pool table, with a table tennis option and television with a whole pile of videos to choose from.
The swimming pool does have a net covering if you would like it on, let your hosts know and it will be done.
Once at Hog Hollow you'll find it pretty hard to tear yourself away to explore the area, but the truth is, without the spectacular attractions surrounding our small piece of paradise, Hog Hollow wouldn't exist.
So the choice is yours: laze around the pool on balmy sunny days, relax in the sauna, read a book, or take the opportunity to visit the many attractions nearby.
As a guest of Hog Hollow looking to explore the area, all you have to do is arrive. We'll take care of the planning and bookings for you. We usually help our guests plan their day at breakfast, then go off to make all the necessary arrangements before sending you on your way complete with directions, a washed car and a scrumptious picnic basket.
We are in The Crags and what a treat is in store for you:
Not only are there wonderful walks in and around the area, but you can walk from the lodge through the indigenous forest to Monkeyland Primate Sancutary or The Birds of Eden or The Elephant Sanctuary.
Or go and see the wild cats at Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, and if you like the more slithery things we even have a Snake and Crocodile sanctuary.
Not to mention a little further up the road there is the HIGHEST bungy in the world and the Treetops Canopy tours.
About 20km from the lodge is our local town edged by the warm Indian Ocean sandy yellow beaches with Robberg Peninsula as an ever present backdrop, here you will find many things to interest you.
