Kamberg - Drakensberg offers visitors a Rock Art Centre as well as trout fishing as major attractions with a 1,5 km trail for wheelchairs along the river.
Nestles in the foothills of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, its central position ideal for visits to many other well known Berg areas from Lotheni to Giants Castle.
This camp is a delightful spot in it’s own right with three attractive picnic sites near the river and trout dams which provide a relaxing alternative to the scenic attractions of the many well maintained walks in the area.
There are a number of self guided trails from the camp, one of which is suitable for handicapped visitors.
As well as the Mooi River, trout fishing can also be enjoyed in several dams which are open to anglers, all year round. Close to Kamberg are the trophy trout fishing dams of Highmoor which must be booked in advance.
Kamberg’s trout hatchery is well worth a visit and is open to the public on a daily basis There is magnificent rock art shelter in Game Pass and there is a guided walk to the area every Sunday.
Accommodation at Kamberg - Drakensberg:
- There are five 2-bedded modern thatched chalets, and one 6 Bed Chalet.
- All units are fully self-contained and are self-catering.
- Visitors are required to do their own cooking.
- All chalets are serviced daily, however guests are required to wash their dishes.
2 Bed Chalet
Fully equipped open plan bedroom and kitchen (2 plate stove only), with a separate bathroom. There is a communal lounge.
6 Bed Chalet
Fully equipped unit with a lounge/dining room, kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom.
What To Do On Arrival
- Visitors who have reserved overnight accommodation must check in at the resort reception office.
- Office hours are between 08:00 - 16:00 daily,
- But closed between 13:00 - 14:00.
What To Bring:
Kamberg Resort is similar to all Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Resorts where it is necessary to bring your own charcoal, food and beverages.
The nearest supplies are obtainable at Rosetta, which is 42 km away, although the curio shop at the reception office supplies basic foods and some essentials.
General:
No pets are allowed into the reserve.
No plug points for electric razors are available.

The reserve is particularly scenic.
There are numerous walks throughout the area as well as three delightful picnic sites near the river and trout dams.
PLEASE NOTE:
The Mountain Rescue Register must to be completed before you begin your hike.
Make sure you sign out again when you return.
Wildlife occurring in the reserve includes reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, blesbok, black wildebeest, grey rhebuck, eland, duiker, red hartebeest and oribi.
One of Kambergs highlights is the San Rock Art Interpretation Centre which runs DVD presentations on rock art.
Trained guides are available to take visitors to Game Pass Shelter (3 hours walk), to see rock art paintings which have been described as the Rosetta Stone of ancient Rock Art.

Fishing
Trout fishing is available in Eland and Erskine Dams which are open to anglers all year round.
Anglers may only use the correct fly fishing tackle and all anglers are required to pay a rod fee at the reception office before they start fishing.
Rods are available for hire from the reception office.

Distance and Time from Gate to Camp: 500 metres
All bookings are confirmed once payment or partial payment is received.
Cancellations greater than 45 days prior to arrival = 10% of amount (min R100)
Cancellation within 45 to 30 days of arrival = 25% of the amount.
Cancellation within 29 to 15 days of arrival = 50% of the amount.
Cancellation within 14 days & arrival date = 100% of the amount.
Amending booked dates is as good as cancelling a booking if it falls within the cancellation period. Same policy applies to amending a booking.
Cancellation policy are voided when booking dates are amended to be cancelled to avoid cancellation policy. So once dates are amended, cancellation policy are not applicable.
High season is applicable over public holidays, school holidays, long weekends, events and high occupancy periods. Tariffs may differ to those advertised.
From the north turn off the N3 at Mooi River, and take the first left onto the R103 to Rosetta then follow the signs to Kamberg.
From the south turn off the N3 to Nottingham Road. Go through the village and on to Rosetta where you will see the Kamberg signs.
