Yzerfontein is home to the nearly extinct Oyster Catcher, a beautiful black bird with red feet and beak. The seasonal whales and dolphins also surprise one often with their maneuvers and can be watched from the comfort of your room. The walking trail that passes in front of the house along the sea, will introduce you to fynbos and flowers, the fishing harbour and the different angling spots, like High Bank, Freddys Rock and Deurspring.
You can explore the coast line along white sandy beaches, take a boat trip to Dassen Island or explore the abundant sea life in the shallow pools. In the evenings the moonlight is just a little more breathtaking than in the cities, because we are fortunate not to have any street lights.
