Lidiko Lodge is a 4 STAR lodge centrally situated in the village of St Lucia, Zululand, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, surrounded by the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park (iSimangaliso Wetland Park), an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Set above the Great St Lucia Lake, on a coastal dune, accommodation in the well-appointed 16 garden lodges is provided on a bed & breakfast basis.
The main building of Lidiko Lodge is one of the first buildings that was erected in St Lucia and with its thatch, oozes an Old World Zululand charm. The main building houses the reception area, guest lounge, a small library for guests, as well as the dining deck with views of the bird and often monkey and mongoose filled gardens. Free Wi-Fi is available in the communal areas. The main building leads to the tropical pool area and the rooms.
The park like gardens and outdoor lounge of the Lidiko Lodge is ideal for bird watching, conversation or just to enjoy quite time. The pool is ideal to cool off or to do some sun soaking on the loungers round the pool.
Lidiko Lodge is centrally situated in St Lucia and within 5 minutes walking distance from all the restaurants, craft market, walking trails and main attractions. Lidiko Lodge is the ideal venue to visit the surrounding wetlands, big 5 game parks as well as pristine beaches. It is a safe haven for joggers, cyclists and walkers. It is also the only known village with hippos roaming the streets at night.
Lidiko Lodge has 16 garden rooms of which 12 are standard double/twin rooms, a family unit (sleeping 4 pax) and 2 family rooms (each sleeping 3-4 pax) as well as a cottage sleeping 6 pax. There is convenient on site parking.
Lidiko Lodge accommodation:
The Lidiko Cottage decorated in a natural tone to enhance relaxation and invite the outdoors in, is a new edition to Lidiko. The cottage is a spacious home from home for families and friends travelling together, ideally suited to accommodate up to 6 guests.
The light and airy living areas, lounge, dining room and den are all generously proportioned and are designed to capture a sense of tranquility and space.
The cottage features a total of three bedrooms with luxurious twin beds and two bathrooms. Further sleeping options are also available in the form of comfortable sleepers in the den area, ideal for children.
Set on the verge of a small park, the Cottage is surrounded by the natural beauty for which St Lucia is renowned. The park is often visited by grazing Hippos in the evenings, a most memorable sight to behold.
The deck leading from the den overlooks this magnificent 4000 sqm park, an ideal spot to wind down after a busy, activity filled St Lucia day and observe the antics of squirrels, monkeys and mongoose families or to simply admire the abundant bird life
Our Cottage rates are fully inclusive of a full breakfast served at the lodge daily. Guests, of course, have all the facilities of the lodge at their disposal, are centrally accommodated in St Lucia and have the luxury of a spacious (app 160 square metre) private cottage all to themselves.
The Family rooms are ideal for three adults travelling together or for two parents with up to two small children. The rooms sleep 3-4 people.
The 2 family rooms which also serve as triple rooms are ideal for 3 adults traveling together or 2 adults with smaller children, who would like to share a room. It consists of a huge thatched rondavel type room with an en-suite bathroom. It is part of the original colonial building and also has a private entrance and patio overlooking the gardens towards the Great St Lucia Lake.
The room has 3-4 beds made up with crisp white linen, two easy chairs, a remote controlled colour television, bar fridge; hairdryer; wall safe; complimentary tea and coffee making facility and accompanying rusks or biscuits.
The family unit consists of two rooms and two bathrooms with an inter-leading door between the two rooms. It sleeps two adults and two children It has a private patio and own entrance and walks out onto the pool area. It is decorated in a contemporary Afro-Colonial style.The bathrooms each have a shower, vanity and toilet and are fitted with fluffy white towels and toiletries.
Each room of the unit has a remote controlled colour TV; a hairdryer; bar fridge, personal safe as well as a complimentary tea & coffee-making facility with accompanying rusks or biscuits. The unit is ideal for a family of four where there are 2 children aged between 6 and 12.
This is the ideal lodge for parents with younger children who would like the children to have their own room, but still be close enough to them.
There are twelve double or twin rooms build around a terraced garden courtyard rich with an abundance of exquisite tropical flora and with the sparkling pool at its centre.
These spacious rooms, decorated in a contemporary Afro-Colonial style, all have a private entrance and private patio that leads onto the pool area of the lodge.
The spacious bathrooms are en-suite, have a separate shower and bath, a big vanity area and are fitted with fluffy white towels and toiletries. The air-conditioned rooms are fitted with either two single beds or a King size bed made up with crisp white linen, two easy chairs, a remote-controlled colour television, hairdryer; bar fridge as well as a complimentary tea and coffee making facility with a packet of traditionally home baked rusks.
Minimum 3 nights stay will apply from 20 December to 6 January.
Facilities at Lidiko Lodge:
The sparkling pool is the ideal place to cool of on a hot Zululand day or perhaps to take a moonlight dip. Return home with more than just memories of St Lucia: return with a tan! Relax and sunbath on the comfortable deck chairs and enjoy our gorgeous all year warm weather.
Our guests are welcome to use wifi in all the communal areas of the lodge free of charge. Guests travelling with their own wireless laptop or smartphone can connect wireless.
On site parking off Flamingo road is available for guests staying at Lidiko Lodge. The resident hippos frequent the parking area at night, so be on the lookout should you need to go to the parking area at night.

Breakfast:
A scrumptious country breakfast is served buffet style on the dining deck overlooking the park like gardens. The breakfast consists of fruit juice, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants and other pastries as well as bacon, eggs, other hot dishes of the day, coffee, tea and toast.
Dinner:
In view of the fact that Lidiko Lodge is within 5 minutes walking distance of all the restaurants in the village, dinner is only done by prior arrangement at time of booking for groups large than 8 guests. Dinners at the lodge consists of a three-course table dhote menu. The dinners are traditional South African meals or barbeques. Lidiko Lodge prides itself in using only the best and freshest ingredients in all their meals.
Dinners are on request and intimately served by candlelight.
Activities:
Lidiko is the ideal venue from which to enjoy a beach and bush holiday.
Go on a boat out to sea and look for marlins, sailfish, dolphins, whales...Maybe you feel like some deep sea fishing. Maybe you just feel like good seafood at one of the local restaurants.
Being in Zululand, visit a cultural village, buy a basket from the local crafts market, have your hair braided the Zulu way or visit a Sangoma (traditional healer).
Do a lake cruise or just walk down to the lake and view the hippos and crocodiles. If you are feeling more adventurous, consider kayaking on the lake between the crocodiles and hippos.
Go for walks in the dune forest or down the Estuary. Listen to the sounds of the forest and look out for red duiker, bushbuck, mongoose.
Track the giant leatherback and loggerhead turtles on a moonlit beach, do birdwatching, find and identify chameleon, dragonfly species and butterflies.
Do your own game drive in the Wetland Park or at nearby Hluhluwe/Imfolozi or join an open vehicle safari to the park.
Go jogging, cycling or just relax and soak up the sun.

Health and Climate:
The whole of the St Lucia Lake area as well as the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Park is malaria free.
Should you however be coming from the Kruger Park, Swaziland or other malaria areas in South Africa you are advised to continue taking prophylactics.
Climate:
We experience beautiful sunny skies throughout the year. Summer temperatures are hot and humid, ranging between 20 degrees at night and up to 40 degrees during the day.
Our winter temperatures are mild, ranging between 14 degrees during the night and up to 24 and even 28 degrees during the day.
Safety
With one access point across a crocodile infested lake and with hippo and leopard patrols during the night, St Lucia is just about crime free. There is further a 24 hour security patrol by Homo sapiens.
Do not go close to the bushy areas at night, because you might meet a hippo or leopard. Always remember that we are in the animals’ territory and respect it.

Directions:
From Johannesburg International airport:
- Head direction Germiston/Bedfordview, to find the Springs Highway N17. Stay on the N17 though Bethal to Ermelo.
- In Ermelo take the N2 to Piet Retief and Pongola. Remain on the N2 past Mkuze till Mtubatuba R618.
- Turn left to Mtubatuba and left again on the R618 to St Lucia. Once you have crossed over the bridge into St Lucia, turn right at the traffic circle into McKenzie Street.
- Follow McKenzie for about 800m and on the left you will find Lidiko Lodge. Come to Reception and we will direct you to the parking to off load your luggage.
