The luxurious Madikwe River Lodge can be found settled upon the banks of the majestic Groot Marico River within the Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province. Surrounded by 75 000 ha of breath-taking scenery and tranquil acacia savannah, as well as offering up a range of superb facilities, Madikwe situates itself as the ideal spot for a game lodge getaway. Found only four and a half hours from Gauteng, and a mere 45 minutes by aircraft, it is conveniently located and easily accessible for both local and international visitors.
The lodge offers guests sixteen comfortable and secluded split-level thatched chalets, which surround the main lodge. Each of these luxurious chalets are decorated to ensure a rich African feel, with en-suite bathrooms, romantic outside showers and a full range of guest amenities. Each of the chalets also have a private wooden deck overlooking the stunning forest and gently flowing river, and a separate lounge.
A gorgeous outdoor Boma is located on a central island in the river, and can be accessed by a wooden bridge. Here, early morning breakfasts are served under the Acacia trees and leisurely, fine-dining diners are experienced under an expansive, sparkling African sky. Given its stunning location, Madikwe River Lodge is the ideal venue to host intimate wedding ceremonies and is also very popular for conferencing and incentive group packages.
Activities on offer centre on the spectacular wildlife, and include: game drives, Big Five spotting, bird watching programmes, game walks, and bush dinners. Whats more, star gazing, swimming and treasure hunts are also on offer. All Safari experiences are in 44s and take guests through the untamed wilderness of the Kalahari Thornveld, home to 66 large mammal species and 350 bird species. There also exists the incredible opportunity to view lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah, white and black rhino, buffalo and elephant.
The North West Province abounds with attractions, including bush and wild animals at the famous Sun City and Lost City resorts. Key attractions include:
The Historic Route of Mafikeng includes the town which was besieged during the Anglo-Boer/South African War. The Groot Marico region, mampoer (moonshine) country, is famous among South Africans for storytelling. The Hartbeespoort Dam is a popular spot for weekend outings, breakfast runs and yachting. The Pilanesberg National Park supports over 7,000 head of game, including the Big Five and 350 bird species. It is the fourth biggest national park in South Africa, and covers 65,000 hectares.
