The Mpumalanga Escarpment serves as a natural bridge between the Lowveld and Highveld, boasting a unique environment. Its higher altitude brings more rainfall, making it lusher than the Lowveld or Highveld. The escarpment’s mountains give rise to numerous rivers and streams, dotted with waterfalls for visitors to explore. The plant life here also stands apart from that of the Lowveld and Highveld. With an average annual rainfall of 2000mm, the area is rich with rainforests where indigenous tree ferns, Clivias, Orchids, and other unique plants thrive. Graskop lies at the gateway to the largest green canyon in the Southern Hemisphere, the Blyde Canyon, and is in proximity to the historic town of Pilgrim’s Rest, which predates Graskop and was the first town in the 1890s to have its own electricity network. Additionally, Graskop is a mere 55 kilometers from the Kruger National Park.
