River Cottage at Addo’s Dungbeetle River Lodge is a four star Guest House located on the bank of the scenic Sundays River, 40 kilometers outside Port Elizabeth, and only 5 kilometers from the Colchester entrance of the world famous Addo Elephant National Park, the ideal entry point to visit this unique Game Reserve.
The Sundays River flows at the foot of the guest house, offering sweeping river views from the lodge’s decks and a perfect backdrop to an all-South African experience of big five game viewing, river activities such as safe swimming, paddle boarding, canoeing, river cruises etc.
Opposite the lodge is the famous Alexandria Dune Field, a hikers paradise of interesting facts, history, geology, flora and fauna and popular for sand sledding, sand boarding, dune hikes and beach walks.

Some of the finest game reserves in the Eastern Cape are within an easy distance, making it the ideal malaria free African Big Five destination.

The River Cottage is situated on the bank of the beautiful Sundays River with unobstructed river views. It offers luxury bed and breakfast accommodation. The River Cottage is tastefully furnished in the colours that reflect the sand dunes and river for which Colchester is known for.
All the bedrooms have air conditioning, a fan, safe, sitting area, dressing table, hair dryer, shaving plugs and beautifully tiled en-suite bathrooms. Two of the suites can be setup with 2 single beds, twin beds or an extra large king size bed. The front suite with a river view can accommodate twin or double beds. The River Cottage also has a lounge and kitchen as well as a wooden deck, which allows guests privacy.
Relax on the deck and enjoy the river birds, the cormorants and darters, the seagulls and Egyptian geese and the herons, as they go about their daily rituals of fishing and tending their young.

- If cancelling 3 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the booking total.
- If cancelling 14 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the deposit.
- If cancelling 28 days before arrival, forfeit 75% of the deposit.
- If cancelling 29 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the deposit.
In response to the increasing concerns about travelling during the recent coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, River Cottage has temporarily amended our cancellation policy to ensure guests can confidently book their holiday risk free.
Please note that these booking policies apply ONLY to guests that book their stay directly with River Cottage. Bookings made through agents or companies are governed by the relevant company’s policies.
The amendments are valid for new bookings made after May 1st, 2020 for travel before October 1st, 2021. River Cottage reserves the right to revert back to our normal cancellation policy within this period. However, the booking policy that applies to each booking is the effective booking policy on booking date not travel date.
Full payment is due on 30 days before arrival but will be 100% refundable until 3 days prior to occupation date of reservation for any guest-initiated cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this includes but is not limited to government lockdowns, travel bans, exposure to COVID-19, or guest not wanting to travel for fear that it is not safe to do so.
