Rooted Bush Safaris is situated a 30-minute drive from Hoedspruit Town. The farm is approximately 261 hectares, and with the undulating hills, it is closer to 360 hectares. The property boasts a variety of plains game with approximately 500 bird species in and around the area.
The camp allocates for self-catering in a group setting, with the feeling of ‘owning your lodge’. Each glamping tented stand is elevated and is furnished with a queen-size bed or twin beds. Each tented stand features an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower. Each stand boasts a balcony with outdoor seating overlooking the bush.
The camp is surrounded and has a low-level electric fence for safety. Guests have access to the communal kitchen, which is well-equipped for self-catering with a gas stove, an oven, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery, and crockery. Extend onto a covered verandah, with a naturally styled pool covered by Marula trees providing that much-needed shade on the hot summer days. The main deck provides the perfect setting to have your early morning coffee or the perfect refreshment in the afternoon while taking in the beautiful sounds of the African bush showing off panoramic views of the Klein Drakensberg.
Enjoy an evening under the stars at the boma, move and enjoy dining under the thatched dining area set for 8.
The main camp facility overlooks the watering hole which is frequently visited by the variety of plains game on the property, giraffe, kudu, zebra, and impala. The camp also includes housekeeping, grounds men, and a professional FGASA registered guide. With tent flaps up, wake up and fall asleep, bringing in nature and soaking up the sounds of the African bush.
From the farm, it’s a 40-minute drive to Phalaborwa Gate and approximately an hour and ten minutes to Orpen Gate into the world-famous Kruger National Park. On a clear day, enjoy an ice-cold beverage with friends and family whilst sitting on the main lodge deck overlooking a boasting view of the Blyde River Canyon the third largest canyon in the world, which is part of the Klein Drakensberg range.

Rooted Bush Safaris is in the fortunate position to offer an exclusive, open game vehicle, day trip to the Kruger National Park, planned and driven by the owner and game ranger of Rooted Bush Safaris, Dillan Levin.
This experience is for a minimum of 2 (see artes paying guests (max 8), who want to experience the wonders of the KNP in an open game vehicle which is only allowed by licenced operators and is limited to a certain number of vehicles per day. Entrance to the KNP will either be through the Phalaborwa or Orpen Gate and will stop for a tea / coffee break in the park and then for lunch (guest to pay) at one of the KNP camp sites and returning to the Rooted Bush Camp late in the afternoon.
This activity must be prepaid in advance.
As space is limited, prebooking of this activity is essential. Rate includes park fees.
Pack your neutral and light-coloured clothing so you blend in better with the surrounding environment. Khaki, beige, brown and green draws the least amount of attention and distraction when out on game drives. Darker and brighter colours can attract unwanted mosquitoes and insects.
The lodge is surrounded by mountains and is secluded, with limited Wi-Fi spots.
There is a cell phone signal within the reserve, but we do advise you to leave mobile phones behind when going on a game drive as they are an unnecessary disturbance to the wildlife and other guests. If you are taking photos with your cell phone camera, set it to aeroplane mode. Local cell phone cards are available to purchase at South African international airports.
