Tanagra Wine & Guest Farm is an idyllic wine farm close to McGregor and part of the Robertson Wine Route and Route 62. We offer comfortable accommodation in well appointed guest cottages, and produce handcrafted wines in a boutique wine cellar and stylish Grappa and Eau de Vie in our boutique distillery.

An old wild fig tree gave the farm its name, Tanagra - it echoes the Khoisan expression for a well-shaded place. This giant tree canopies the historic homestead and winery, providing welcoming shade during the hot days of summer.

Come and stay with us in one of our private cottages, explore the farm and taste our farm products right where they are produced - agri-tourism at its best.

Tanagra is the ideal place for the wine and nature lover seeking an authentic and peaceful countryside experience in a naturally elegant and laid-back farm ambiance - home from home on a working farm in McGregor.

Accommodation at Tanagra Wine & Guest Farm:
Tanagra offers 4 cottages/units that are part of the main farm (Bottlebrush, Gumtree, Garden cottage, Loft studio), with a lawned garden, lots of trees and a pool in the garden, and 2 cottages that are tucked away from the main farm, situated in wild Karoo veld (Hill cottage, Faraway), with private plunge pools. Except Faraway, which has 2 bedrooms and can sleep 4 persons, all cottages/units sleep 2.

All cottages are fully equipped for self-catering and have private stoeps with lovely views and private braai places. They are are very comfortable in summer and winter (open fireplaces, heaters, etc.). There are various walking/hiking trails on the farm (including a botanical plant trail) and leading into the adjoining Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve.

Activities:

There are various walking/hiking trails on the farm and which lead into Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve 'next door'. The farm and the area are also very suitable for mountain biking. There's an abundance of birds here which make Tanagra a birders' paradise. Guests are also welcome to come for a complimentary tasting of the boutique wines and artisan spirits (Grappa and Eau de Vie) we produce at Tanagra.

McGregor, a quaint village with whitewashed cottages and where time stands still (as they say), is only a convenient 5 minutes' drive away and offers cafes, restaurants, shops, a pottery andalleries. There are more activities to explore in the Robertson Wine Valley (10 to 15 minutes away), offering an abundance of wine estates to visit and other activities (boat cruises on the Breede River, olive oil tastings, etc.).

Clothing and Accessories:

Guests are advised to bring their own drinking water, as the tap water at Tanagra is currently very salty (though is safe to be used).

Faraway is built on the most solitary spot of the farm – just fynbos, mountains, endless skies, and silence. It combines the traditional features of a Cape Langhuis with an eco-friendly (off the grid) and modern design (large panorama windows & doors).

Spacious one bedroom cosy country cottage (47sqm), with coloured screed floor and reed ceiling, located in the garden next to the pool while still providing privacy. Sheltered stoep looking out on nature reserve.

Gumtree is a charming and spacious one-bedroom apartment attached to the old Tanagra homestead. Wooden floors and high vault reed ceilings keep this apartment light and airy. Braai place in the garden and lovely views on the mountains.

Romantic and private one bedroom cottage, sitting alone on a hill, surrounded by indigenous fynbos and overlooking the Tanagra vineyards with breathtaking views into the McGregor and Robertson valley.

This spacious one bedroom studio is located above the Tanagra winery (81sqm in size, incl. considerable roof slope). The highlight is a spacious and sunny wooden deck providing scenic views on the mountains, the beautiful farm dam and the vineyards.
