The Studio at The Aloes Farm is a secure free-standing cottage on an active small-holding farm adjacent to the Hilton College Estate. There is a landscaped garden enclosed by an electric fence for the use of the guests, and an organic vegetable garden from which guests can harvest lettuce, herbs and spinach for their meals. Guests are welcome to walk on the farm, so there is lots of room for children to expend their energy.
The living area has a fully-equipped open plan kitchen and dining room with a large yellowwood table, catering for sociable cooking and eating moments. The lounge, which is also open plan to the living area, has very comfy furniture surrounding a fireplace (wood supplied), with a smart TV (open WiFi) to one side. The living area spills through double doors onto a large patio where guests can enjoy the spacious views and afternoon sun. The comfy couches and a swing chair provide the perfect spot to enjoy a good book or casual banter over a cup of coffee, while the children play in the garden or nearby fields. The patio, with its BBQ facilities, also has a large 8-seater dining table and benches that provides a great place for outside entertainment.
The three bedrooms have brand new luxury beds (two queen size and two singles) covered with percale cotton linen to ensure a good night’s rest. Each room has wall heaters for the more chilly Hilton nights. The large main bedroom has a workstation for a laptop, and an en suite bathroom with shower and large corner bath. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom with a shower.
A unique feature of The Studio is that all the art works are originals painted by your host, Shelagh, and all paintings are available for purchase, so the next time you visit there will probably new art on the walls!
The Studio is the perfect blend of convenience and rural experience. Although close to the major access routes (and popular destinations such as the Midlands Meander, Hilton Village, Hilton Life Hospital, Hilton College and other private schools) The Studio offers a very ‘farmy’ feel with a sense that one is truly getting away from the busyness of life. Having driven the last 2km on a gravel road, guests will feel as if they out in the country, and will be able to enjoy the evening call of jackal, the burble of fiery necked night-jars or the sharp whistles of reedbuck.
There is an old dairy on the farm adjacent to The Studio that has been converted to a rural church, and guests are welcome to join the small congregation from mid-morning on Sundays. The open-sided dairy that overlooks Albert Falls dam provides a unique opportunity to worship God in a simple and authentic manner.
The Studio is conveniently close to the Hilton N3 off-ramp and is accessed via the Hilton College Road and D494 district gravel road. The route is well sign-posted from the Hilton College Road, and ample parking is provided under a large shade port. The Hilton Village is 5km from The Studio and there are many excellent restaurants and coffee shops to eat at. We have organised discounts at some of the eateries for guests.
The Studio guests are welcome to walk through the farmlands and natural veld of the property and surrounds, and to savour the quiet and peace of the area. A map showing the various walking routes is provided. The Studio is very close to some excellent mountain bike trails which are accessed in the nearby plantations.
