Lake Jozini near Pongola in northern KwaZulu-Natal is the only waters in South Africa which is home to the ferocious fighting tiger fish. It is the southern most extremity of the infamous Tiger Fish population (Hyrocynus Vittatus) due to the hot summer temperatures and moderate winter climate.
Viewing wildlife from the Lake
Good sizes have been caught in the Lake where the official record is 8.3kg. Boats can be hired including a guide who skippers the boat and shows you the know-how and hot spots on the Lake.
Surrounded by the Pongola Game Reserve and the Kings Reserve on the Northern Swaziland shores, and situated in the Zululand Bushveld, the area offers excellent game and bird viewing (about 400 species).
