The Garden Route is one of the country’s leading golf destinations and a number of the world’s best courses can be found in a relatively small area. Courses such as Kingswood, Fancourt, Pezula, Oubaai, Pinnacle Point and George Country Club offer breathtaking views, magnificent fairways and some of the most luxurious amenities imaginable.
The one thing the golf courses all have in common is astounding views over ocean, lagoons, rivers and mountains. Mossel Bay for example is famed for having a view of the Indian Ocean from every tee and each hole at Simola has broad vistas across the Knysna Lagoon or Knysna River. Pezula rates among the best and most scenic golf courses in the world.
There are other notable features too; such as the exceptional birdlife (including the colourful Knysna Lourie) at Plettenberg Bay Country Club, springbok grazing on the course at Mossel Bay, wind-free fairways at Simola and a great atmosphere in the bar at George Golf Course – giving it a reputation as the most popular watering hole.
The Garden Route is not without reason known as South Africa’s Golfing Mecca.
