Anysberg Nature Reserve lies in the Klein Karoo between Ladismith, Laingsburg and Touwsrivier (about 70km from each) , only 4 hours from Cape Town, and offers the visitor some of the most striking scenery in the Karoo.
Here you can relish in the peace and tranquillity that surrounds you as the night’s sky draws your eye to the heavens when the sun sets. No electric lights to pollute the sky and you’ll not easily find a better place to marvel at the night sky than this reserve. Watching the beautiful night sky is an experience not to be missed.
Five small cottages are available for hire, accommodating 21 people in total. There is no electricity (only solar lighting), but the cottages are fully equipped with cutlery, crockery and bedding and the units are provided with candles, gas fridges and cooking facilities.
The plant life ranges from eye-catching succulents to impressive stands of proteas which occur at higher altitudes. Mammals include steenbok, duiker, gemsbok, red hartebeest, the endangered Cape mountain zebra and numerous other small, shy species. Bird-watchers will find this an interesting locality, with approximately 180 bird species having been recorded.
Numerous archaeological sites are dotted over the reserve. Bushman paintings depicting scenes from the past and ruins dating from the late 1700s are reminders of the early hunters, farmers and herders who inhabited the area.
You’ll leave Anysberg with impression of abundance, plenitude and vast riches; of wide open planes, never-ending mountains and night skies heavy with stars.
