The questions is often asked when is the best time to go on safari. It depends on which African country you’ll be visiting, but in Southern Africa it is normally during the drier months – from about April to October.
During the raining season the animals tend to disperse as water can be found everywhere, making them harder to find while on safari. Since the vegetation is very lush it can obstruct your views of the animals.
Southern Africa is a safari paradise from April through the cooler, drier months of the winter until about October when the rains start. The prime safari areas in South Africa around Kruger National Park are at their best from June through September when the weather is cooler and dry. The only disadvantage is the rather chilly nights during winter.
It must however be said, that the good infrastructure of roads inside most parks and the utilisation of specially built safari vehicles, make game viewing during the summer months these days a pleasure. Although not as good as during the dry period, it is still amazing – and the weather is lovely.
