Located just 8 km beyond Plettenberg Bay on the N2 towards Port Elizabeth, Keurbooms Nature Reserve is a place of tranquil water and coastal forest – a cool place to spend your summer holiday.
The best way to explore the reserve is by canoe on the 7 km Whiskey Creek Canoe Trail. Visitors do not need to be particularly fit and this trail is a good option for families.
Wind is not a problem either. The trail is sheltered from the wind by a beautiful forested valley. Birds include striking species such as the Knysna turaco, malachite and giant kingfisher, and narina trogon. Stop off at one of the riverside beaches en route for a picnic lunch or a dip in the water.
This river route takes you to the Whiskey Creek Cottage, which sleeps 10 people in four bunk beds and two single beds. Here you can unwind on the spacious deck and enjoy dinner out in the open. The cottage is for the exclusive use of the group paddling the trail and can be reached only by canoe.
