Balule Nature Reserve of approximately 40,000 ha is a private reserve but part of the unfenced Greater Kruger National Park which is an open conserved area of some 3,000,000 ha (30,000 km).
The unrivalled Balule Nature Reserve is home to the Big 5 - Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhinoceros nad Buffalo as well as Hippopotamus and Crocodile and numerous other species.
The Oliphants river meanders its way through the centre of Balule Nature Reserve for about 20km and brings water to the reserve the whole year round.
