The Waterberg (Water Mountain) is a unique wilderness area of South Africa yet to be fully discovered.
It's beauty lies in it's superb vistas, mountain gorges, clear streams and rolling bushveld hills, all rich in indigenous species of flora and fauna.
The area is also steeped in history, with many a rock art and geological site.
One of the country's lesser known geographical wonders, the range, bluish in colour and supporting a biome covering over 15 000 sq. km, offers scenic valleys and a holiday in the mountains away from the traditionally popular, often too busy, tourist centres.
An area steeped in history dating to stone age times and featuring significantly in the country's cultural and sociopolitical development - many towns in the area house different clans of Bapedi, Tswana and Basotho tribes, while others hold a Voortrekker lifestyle invisible in areas more affected by the progression of time.
Approximately 6 000 square kilometers of the Waterberg has already been designated a conservation area, with elephants, white rhino, leopard and buffalo all resident.
The prolific birdlife, with over 300 species listed, creates a bird watchers paradise.
The numerous activities offered in the area includes guided bush walks, game drives, farm tours, bird watching, riding safaris, cattle mustering, fishing, hunting, river boat cruises, hiking, 4x4 and mountain bike trails.
