The Battlefields Route is not a journey, it is a rich experience.
These unspoilt battlefields have a palpable atmosphere and the information centres or tourists can evoke vivid pictures of the tough battles fought there.
On the Battlefields route you will find:
* The largest concentration of significant and iconic Battlefields in the history of South Africa.
* Numerous Wildlife, Game and Nature Parks many with the "Big 5"
* Great Zulu Culture and Heritage sites
* Bushman Paintings and the remains of Iron Age Settlements.
Within easy driving distance there are water sports, bush adventures, hiking trails, off road routes and a host of rivers and dams teeming with trout and bass.
There is the splendour of game reserves and lodges, where you truly experience the wild life of Africa, including viewing the big five of lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant from the comfort and security of your own car, an open safari vehicle, or on a guided game walk under the supervision of an experienced ranger.
Many of the battlefield sites have remained unchanged since the time of the battle and consequently have no facilities.
