How to get there?
From Cape Town, heading east along the N2 highway, over Sir Lowrys Pass and youve arrived in the Elgin Valley, the gateway to The Cape Country Meander with Grabouw as first stop - just one hour away from Cape Town.
From Grabouw youll have a choice of seven further towns to explore, and the majestic wide open spaces between them. The Cape Country Meander stretches 100km long in an elegant meander, offering enough country joys for a proper summer break.

The landscape is characterised by mountains, dams, fynbos, wildlife, farm life, wilderness and tranquility.

Activities
* there are 10 official mountain bike routes open all year round and plenty of others on farms throughout the region.
* Theewaterskloof Dam near Villiersdorp is the seventh biggest dam in the country. It offers a variety of craft under sail; kite surfing and wind surfing; jet skis, powerboats and waterskiing.
* the Elgin Grabouw Country Club provides the perfect place to learn to paddle and offers rewarding bass fishing too.
* fishing is in fact plentiful in the regions rivers and seven dams with the vast Theewaterskloof Dam enticing anglers with the prospect of bass, carp and rainbow trout.
* an exhilarating variety of walks and hiking trails take you through the Cape Floral Kingdom, the worlds smallest, but home to some 150 species that grow here and nowhere else. The Hottentots Holland ranges provide the Boland Hiking Trail and Elandskloof trails that draw hikers from around the world.
* birdlife is rich and diverse and special tours for twitchers can be arranged.
* there is abseiling and rock climbing in beautiful gorges as well as guided 4x4 or quad bike tours.
* the deep gorges and mountain peaks in The Riviersonderend Conservation Area are a hikers dream, with set trails meandering through the reserve.
* The Koegelberg Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO protected biosphere reserve. More than 1 600 plant species thrive here, of which an estimated 150 species are found here alone.
* The Hottentots Holland Nature reserve is important for the conservation of mountain fynbos with approximately 1 300 species occurring here, including several rare and endemic plants. Small populations of grey rhebuck, klipspringer, common duiker and grysbok occur, and leopard frequent these mountains but are seldom seen.
Approximately 110 bird species have been recorded on the reserve, amongst them several species of raptor.
