Witsand is a beautiful small village that lies on St Sebastian Bay. St Sebastian Bay on the Cape South Coast is by far the most important nursery area for Southern Right Whales on the African Coast.
Aerial surveys indicates that the Right Whale cow-half pairs in St Sebastian Bay may be the largest assemblage in the world, with the possible exception of the Peninsula Valdes region of Argentina.
As Witsand is only a 3 hour drive from Cape Town it is a welcome stop on your Garden Route tour. From here visitors are within easy reach of the Malgas Pont, De Hoop Nature Reserve, Heidelberg, Swellendam, the Bontebok Park, Barrydale, Ashton, Robertson Wine Route and Montague before moving onto the greater Garden Route area.
